I remember waiting for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalog to arrive in the mail. Today, we’re inundated with thousands of recommendations before the sale even begins. Instead of buying more, I’m approaching this year’s sale differently: looking for fewer pieces that will earn a place in my wardrobe long after the excitement fades.
If something sells out before you get to it, let it go. Another beautiful piece will come along. The goal isn’t to shop the sale—it’s to shop intentionally. That’s also why I waited until the final week of the sale to publish this post.
By now, some items may already be sold out—and honestly, that’s okay. I’ve found that once the dopamine rush of shopping a sale fades, I’m rarely thinking about the pieces I missed.
Speaking of adrenaline, I’m at what Chef Chris Pastena recently called the “elevated age,” where anything that unnecessarily spikes my cortisol—including impulse buying—is something I’d rather avoid.
So this year, instead of chasing every deal, I built a small edit guided by a few simple principles.
Curation Principals
Timeless over trendy
I gravitate toward modern classics with clean lines—pieces I’ll still be reaching for long after this season’s trends have faded.
Quality over quantity
I’d rather invest in one beautifully made piece than fill my closet with items that won’t stand the test of time.
Brands I trust
These are the designers I’ve come back to over the years because they’ve earned my trust.
Pieces I’d buy even if they weren’t on sale
Every piece in this collection is something I’d genuinely consider adding to my wardrobe, whether it was on sale or not.
Items that work beyond one season
Each selection is versatile enough to be styled across seasons and worn in multiple ways, making it easier to build a wardrobe that does more with less.
