I’m especially fortunate to be a Wardrobe Essentials blogger during this time. Although with our current world situation even fashion is one of the last things on my mind!

In addition to deciding whether or not to stay home, job losses mean we are faced with deciding to pause on non essential spending.

Getting back to basics is priority number one and a theme that will no doubt infiltrate the fashion world.

Those who make a living in fashion blogging must decide whether and what to “influence” their subscribers to purchase, and not be tone deaf to the world we are now in.

If you’re a blogger who is reading this, take a few minutes to poll your subscribers on what they want to see from you during this time. An Instagram Poll is an easy and fun way to get constructive feedback. My feedback was a 25/75 percent preference of COVID19 and Fashion related content respectively.

A large majority of subscribers expressed a desire to take their mind off the news coverage and escape into fashion.

Thus shopping ones closet is great escape and couldn’t be more important than it is today. If capsule closets and wardrobe essentials are your thing it will be easy for you to resist the temptation to spend. But if you need some ideas on what NOT to buy, read on.

In today’s post I’m sharing the 3 things I’m not buying.

Luxe Accessories – Every now and then I like to punctuate my basics with a designer piece usually a handbag. Not now. Who knows what tomorrow will look like. Plus I feel the luxury brands have the financials to weather this storm. My dollar can do more to help a small business

Statement Pieces – If you follow me on Instagram then you know I love a statement shoe, the “uglier” the better. Now that I’m work from home, days go by without wearing as much as a flip flop let alone a pair of ruched mules. I guess the old adage of “women shop for each other” may be true!

Outerwear – This one goes without saying since I’m staying indoors. When you have a very basic wardrobe like mine, outerwear is a key element. This means that I have a hearty coat collection. For now I’m content to wait for that moment of pleasant suprise when I rediscover my favorite coats come fall. Even if it I have to match my face covering to it!

Obviously there are lots of things that one should consider not buying. These are just 3 things I’m not buying. I’d love to know what your list is.

Also if you suffer from retail therapy what are you thinking about buying? Most likely everything you need is already there in one form or another. And you can really stretch your wardrobe from 10 Essential Pieces to numerous outfits

Now, if you’re in a position to buy, know that your dollar is even more powerful than it was a few months ago. Your disposable income has the ability to support a small business, send a statement to companies that can “do better”, and contribute to a charitable cause all in one click.
