I was honestly surprised by my new found have appreciation for sweater dresses this season. Probably the ease of one and done is why I reached for my favorite from the Maison Martin Margiela x H&M collaboration. With its near floor length sleeves and oversized fit, I’ve owned this for 7 years and it never disappoints.

Popularized in the 80s and 90s, sweater dresses are arguably the original one and done high fashion statement. Only the jumpsuit compares. Perfect for going out and staying home.

To modernize the look I paired my sweater dress with chunky boots. This pair from Ugg are both comfy and affordable (shop here). Proenza Bag available prenowned here

In today’s post I’m sharing my favorite sweater dress styles and why you will welcome this versatile piece into to your capsule closet. Plus I’ve curated a selection of my favorites to shop or be inspired by.

  • The Basic (but elevated) sweater dress . I love the simple lines of a crewneck sweater. To elevate the look reach for a skinny belt and over-the-knee boots,
  • The Luxe Cashmere sweater dress. If you have sensitive skin, a dress in cashmere might be the best for you. My new favorites are from Quince. The quality is excellent and the price point is very reasonable for cashmere. Use my Quince referral code for $10 off,
  • The Turtledress. Honestly I have been obsessing over this floor length number since November. Something about being encompassed in warmth from neck to ankle. As close to an adult onesey as one can get. Entireworld continues to stock this item but you might have to join a waitlist for one in your favorite hue,
  • The Button Down – Love a cardigan? Then why not make it a double, length that is. For years I’ve kicked myself for parting ways with a  Merino wool J. Crew sweater dress. I’ve been on the hunt for a suitable replacement ever since,
  • The Twinset – A follow on to the preppy trend, a crew neck sweater can be tied around the waist or shoulders of the dress for a full tonal look. For extra edge drape diagonally across the top of one shoulder.
