A change in season, to Winter especially, is a great time to reassess what is and isn’t working in your closet. This starts with outerwear. To me winter coats are one, if not THE, favorite closet essential of the season.

Below are a few of my favorite winter coats to collect this season and beyond. I chose to feature the shearling coat because it’s a timeless classic that can read as both Elegant and Edgy.

The Classic Teddy Coat – The Curated

In my opinion, slow fashion brand The Curated can do know wrong. Their styling is simplistic and elegant. I must confess that I often refer to their look books when I’m at a loss on how to elevate a basic piece! A “What would The Curated Do” of sorts.

Their lean manufacturing model of producing pre-orders instead of bulk order is sustainable. Plus their price point of $345, while nothing to sneeze at, is well below the luxury counterpart. The Classic Teddy is designed after the iconic Max Mara Teddy coat which will set you back $3,700, and is made with real wool shearling and lined in pure silk. Due to it’s high quality construction and high demand, this coat can be hard to track down. So I recommend either signing up for the restock notification, or contacting The Curated directly for an approximate restock date. Their customer service is impeccable (I received an email directly from the founder) and they pride themselves on customer retention.

Shearling coats are so collectible because they never go out of style, and are often reversible, giving you two coats in one.

I love a two for one deal in this W-Concept reversible coat from Front Row x Recto

Eco Shearling Reversible Coat – W Concept

If wool is not your preferred choice, this Front Row x Recto coat is the way to go. Coming in three color ways (Brown/camel, Grey/Cream, Taupe/Cream) this coat raises the bar as far as synthetics are concerned. I came across this coat by way of vegan social media maven Jenny Mustard, and it did not disappoint.

Sold at Korean brand W-Concept this is by far the best vegan, or synthetic shearling coat I’ve come across. (My other favorite vegan leather coats are by NOMIA – in case you were wondering). I was fully expecting crunchy-fur with a wafting petroleum smell as soon as I opened the box. (“Off-gassing” in construction terminology) But I was pleasantly surprised at its odor-free buttery soft vegan-leather. The textural faux shearling is non-shedding which is a sure sign of a quality faux shearling coat. I’ve linked here where to shop for this coat as well as below. If it’s out of stock, do sign up for the email notification since this coat has been a staple on the site for over two winters in a row. While I was able to score mine at 50% off during the off season, this coat is an investment piece. So I’ve linked a cropped version that is half the cost but no less stylish.

Along with a sprinkling of luxury options, I’ve included budget friendly options. A long-lasting quality real or vegan shearling coat is worth the investment.
