National Consignment Day 2017

Acne Studios Vendome Mohair & Wool pullover

Today I’m celebrating National Consignment Day by sharing how I assemble a complete look with pieces purchased on consignment.

I’ve been shopping consignment for as long as I can remember. In my college days I even consigned my own clothing to pay for expensive engineering textbooks! (Hey, a girls gotta have priorities!) These days however, I mostly shop consignment for gently used (and new) high-end clothing at a discount.

My personal approach to consignment is to target brands I love but don’t have convenient physical access to. Brands such as Marni and Acne Studios are a few of my favorites. Many luxury designer goods such as handbags can be nabbed at deep discounts and in like-new condition.

My long-term obsessions in the handbag category is a pre-owned Celine box bag and the Celine Micro luggage tote. I’ve been stalking these two on luxury consignment site The Real Real for what must be a few years now.

While I’m still waiting for the right moment to grab a Celine, I recently purchased this Acne Studios Vendome Mohair & Wool pullover for $139  from The RealReal. A quick online search shows the full price when new was about $450, a savings of 70%.

Consigning is a great way to make smart, sustainable fashion choices and earn extra money.

Below is my personal edit from The Real Real where you can shop a similar outfit while saving some serious cash. Some are still definitely an investment and others are within reach, even a click away.

If you’re determined and patient, consignment is a great way to find “the one that got away”. Best of all, when you shop consignment you will be supporting a lifecycle of luxury rather than contributing to landfill.

“With 2.5 billion pounds of textiles saved from landfills through resale, consignment is not only financially smart, it’s also sustainable”. The Real Real
