5 Most Comfortable Jeans for Staying Home

You are not alone if working from home has got you scrutinizing your surroundings including things as mundane as the jeans in your closet. Every weekend it seems that I’m reorganizing and reassessing my closet.

Work life under the pandemic means that every day is casual Friday at least from the waist down. As the months wear on, I’ve reached for jeans on more days than just casual Fridays. Consequently, jeans have taken on a special status in my closet.

Like buying a swimsuit, shopping for jeans is one of those things best done in person. We’ve all been there: lugging stacks of jeans into the dressing room only to leave with one or two good fitting pairs. Chances are you already have plenty of jeans to choose from already in your closet. Why not curb your urge to splurge by breathing new life into your old and current favorites?

That’s exactly what I did by narrowing it down to my 5 Most Comfortable Jeans for staying home.

2nd Hand Jeans – According to Marketwatch Online secondhand is set to grow 27% in 2020, while broader retail sector is projected to shrink 23%. Shoppers are buying secondhand more than ever before: 70% of women have or are open to shopping secondhand. It’s no wonder that 2 out of the 5 jeans in my “Good” category are vintage.

1.Vintage 80’s Levis 550 aka Mom Jeans. Made from 100% cotton. What makes these jeans comfortable for working from home are the roomy thighs and super high rise. When you’re sitting in a chair all day, it’s imperative that your jeans sit well above your natural waistline. Pre-pandemic, these “mom jeans” garnered compliments every time I wore them. They have the perfect mid-wash color. Not too light and not too dark. Perfect for dressing up with a tailored shirt and pumps. Easy to dress down with a strong-shoulder T-shirt. 2. Vintage 80’s Guess?Jeans. Made from 100% cotton. Pre pandemic I had to traverse the country to find a pair of vintage Guess? jeans. Now with second had online shopping enjoying an uptick you’ll be sure to find the vintage pair of your dreams on site like Poshmark, Ebay and Depop. The reason for their comfort is simple, time. Even though all of my vintage jeans are 100% cotton, all of the washing has made the cotton relax and broken in. This took a lot of years, water, and energy so it takes good sense from an environmental standpoint to shop vintage. Shop new Vintage-inspired Guess? jeans at Yoox

3. Vintage Gitano Acid Wash Jeans. Made from 100% Cotton. Obviously today no one should consider buying a new pair of acid wash denim. Yet, acid wash is still a popular fashion trend. Today, as it was in the 80’s, the chemical process is hazardous and detrimental to the workers handling the fabric. However the end result of a good pair of acid wash jeans is a downy soft jean. Fortunately I found my pair at Houston, TX Flamingo’s Vintage Kilo. You can find yours by conducting a Google search or scouring local garage sales. I found this great pair at Garmentory.

4. Everlane The Super Straight Jean. Made from 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane. As a long time customer and affiliate I have quite a few Everlane denim items. Lately, I’m wearing the Super Straight Jean on rotation. The high waist sits comfortably all day. The straight cut offers much needed room in the thigh for sitting crosslegged at the computer. The slim cut is stylish and gives any outfit a sophisticated look. I was so impressed that I bought both the washed black and medium washes. If you do decide to shop Everlane please see my Everlane disclaimer for recent news on their partnership with Black in Fashion Council.

5. Uniqlo U-shaped Jeans. Made from 100% Cotton. Although my husband would argue differently, personally I love a boyish wide leg jean. This version from Uniqlo ticks all the boxes of style. While these 100% cotton jeans are not as comfy as my vintage pairs, they will soften over time and with more trips to the washing machine. But you cannot beat the price point. Best of all, these over sized jeans doesn’t overpower a small or petite frame. Tip: if you purchase these in-store Uniqlo will tailor the length to your liking.
