Recently I was invited by MCM to visit their boutique at Westfield Valley Fair for an in-store event celebrating craftsmanship and personalization.

I’ve admired the brand for years but had never taken the plunge.
A quick style note: MCM actually stands for Modern Creation München, a nod to the brand’s roots in Munich and its blend of heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Like many people, I associate MCM with its iconic monogram — bold, recognizable, and everywhere. While I appreciate the heritage behind it, my personal style tends to lean a bit more minimal, with a wardrobe built mostly around camel, black, and other quiet neutrals.

During the visit, I found myself drawn to a different silhouette entirely: the Aren VI East-West bag. I’ve long wanted to add an east-west shape to my collection.
It also felt like a natural entry point into the world of MCM. The monogram is still there, of course, but the overall design feels quieter and more aligned with my personal aesthetic.

One of the highlights was watching an artist personalize bags in real time — part of the in-store MCM personalization experience at the Valley Fair boutique.
Moments like this are a reminder that sometimes it just takes seeing a brand from a slightly different angle to appreciate it in a new way.
