Every fashion season has a “This” is the new “That”. For Spring/Summer 2017 Pink is the new Black.
Keeping up with trends can be frustrating, not to mention costly. Which is why I recommend selecting 1 or 2 items per season. Case in point: this Everlane square silk shirt in pink. This was the first color item the brand released in a collection which is largely neutral. Check my blog post featuring this blouse ( Open Studio visit (here). )
At the time I wasn’t in the market for a pink shirt but I kept my eye out. Eventually I was rewarded when it went on sale at the “Choose What You Pay” area of Everlane’s site.
I think Everlane took a risk with this color because it wasn’t a crowd favorite. As a result of pink NOT being the new black at that time, it was relegated to the “Choose What You Pay” sale.
But I think Everlane was ahead of itself. Because when the top landed in the sale section; when fashion gods decreed that pink is the new black, it promptly sold out.
In fashion, timing is everything. And I happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Online fashion tip: Mark your favorites or “Loves” section of the website. This will allow you to be notified when stock is low or when the price comes down.
Now, about this outfit! I paired this top with my favorite MM6 trouser in army/olive green and dusty pink webby mules. Accessories were matchy matchy with green lensed clubmaster style sunnies by Madewell.
To give this look some pizazz I tucked the front of the blouse and hiked up my pants (al la Clint Eastwood SNL spoof). Yah, I know that’s quirky and makes my bottom look long, but it just works!
Inspiration can come from anywhere and serves as the “story” behind the outfit.
I added an armload of vintage Bakelite bangles in shades of green, orange, and mustard. (Tip, if they don’t smell like formaldehyde when you rub them, chances are they are not real Bakelite).
Last but not least – THAT GAIA ARK BAG which needs no description; it’s that epic.
As far as accessories are concerned this is the IT bag of Spring Summer. You can purchase the bag on Cult Gaia’s website (here) for $128 or under $100 at Five Story with 15 % off your first purchase (here).
