OOTD: Mixing Price Points

I’m a firm believer that you don’t need fresh new clothes from head to toe to look your best.

Apparently my well-intentioned auntie thought differently. When I was a little girl she used to take me and a cousin on regular trips to KMart and leave our 7 year old selves in the car while she dashed inside to buy us matching outfits for some family gathering.

Minutes after her return we would emerge from the car, our foreheads shining from our freshly corn-rowed hair, smelling of chemical sizing from our unlaundered new clothes.

So where am I going with this post, you are probably wondering? Actually I’m not totally sure (one of the luxuries of having a blog is reminiscing). Maybe it was the smell of fabric sizing. Anyway,

Oh yes, mixing price points. Wearing an Acne Studio moto along with a $30 pair of peep toe booties from Target is an example of incorporating a high end piece from the 5-piece French wardrobe with a trend item from your 11th key piece capsule. (see my About page for an explanation)

This high-low combination works really well as you can see – it goes to show that you don’t always need every article of clothing in your outfit to be brand new or even a “brand” for that matter.

Elevate your look with one special item in a higher price point rather than going “all out”.

My recommendation: If you throw on a lower price point item make sure you are satisfied with the garment’s quality and that it also has an “interesting” detail. These booties have a high sheen which caught my eye; they look like real leather. The mesh waffle cut (the interesting detail) sets these apart from all the other low end peep toes on the market.

When combined with an affordable but high quality top in 100% linen from Target’s Who What Wear line and mom’s vintage Dior separates skirt (for free) the entire put-together look seems upscale.

Last tip, always wash new your garments before you wear them as sizing (the chemical kind) does matter!

Xoxo,
