As you know, my wardrobe tends towards the neutral side and these little pops of color instantly transformed my everyday basic gladiator sandal into every shoe addict’s obsession.

Before embarking on this latest adventure I took to the Internet for inspiration. There are tons of pompon sandals on the market by luxury brands such as Aquazzura and fast-fashion retailers like Zara. After conducting a high degree of research (on YouTube) I headed to my local Michael’s craft store for supplies and armed with a few digital coupons.

Read on for the “how-to”.

Supplies for the DIY pom pom sandal (and links to where to find):

  1. Start by removing the laces from your gladiator sandals.
  2. Use a hot glue gun to attach pom pom’s of varying colors and sizes to the face of the pendant blanks. I’ve seen some tutorials instructing you to actually glue the pom moms directly to the sandal which usually renders the shoe useless after this trend fades, and fade it will!
  3. (Optional step) Choose several pendant blanks to glue poms on both sides. About 8 – 10 pendant blanks should be enough.
  4. Alternating with the tassels, thread the laces back into the sandals and into the pom pom pendants; locating them to suit your design preference.

And you’re all done. Lace them up and start strutting like the peacock you are!
